Power Pull Press Release April 16, 2008
Rehab on the Power Pull
by Dr. Jeff Schutt (info@powerpull.com)

One of the functions that the Power Pull machine plays in my line of work is the ability to use it as a tool for getting injured athletes back to action. I see a lot of sprained ankles and ACL injuries in my practice and I have found that the Power Pull machine is excellent to work the athlete back into playing shape.

One of the key components that the Power Pull gives me is that the resistance is continuous so the athlete gets a steady and safe workout without any jerking around on the joint. I like to have the athletes pull the Power Pull while walking backward to strengthen and stabilize the ankle and knee joints while under a weight bearing situation. Walking backward with resistance in my mind does more for teaching the joints to stabilize and strengthening the VMO than simply sitting on a leg extension machine. The fact that I can control and record the resistance with the simple turn of a dial makes the Power Pull an even bigger reason to use it.

Another nice function of the Power Pull that many people do not know about is that you can get ankle straps and special pulley cables to attach to the Power Pull so you can have the athletes pull the machine either from the shoulders, waist or the ankles for contact points. Any type of lateral knee or hip injury can slowly be worked back into shape by pulling the Power Pull during side walking and side lunge exercises. Hip flexor injuries can be rehabbed with the ankle attachment hooked to the machine so the athlete can pull the machine from the hip extended position all the way to the thigh being parallel to the ground position. Many other pieces of rehab equipment cannot be used while traveling over extended distances and limited to one spot. The Power Pull allows the athlete to move as they would on the field or court so I can see how they adapt their movements over distance.
